Unpacking ASI North America: why and what's next
About a year ago, we announced that ASI North America PB LLC (ASI NA) was established. This move emphasized ASI’s ambition to expand to new regions as well as to position our services more clearly.
ASI has been known as an accreditation body and then as an assurance service provider for many years. Our brand evolved and name changed, our customer portfolio diversified and our service offerings grew. These two identities under one company often confused our customers.
Then, to add even more complexity, there is this mysterious ASI Two-Tier Assurance program, which integrates Europe’s national accreditation framework with our assurance oversight for voluntary sustainability schemes, our customers.
Many of you reading this will not understand what I am speaking about – terms such as assurance, national and international accreditation, oversight, voluntary schemes, and more. Exactly, this is the thing. It’s always a challenge for us to maintain direction and deliver clarity in an industry that involves so much technical jargon and formal terms.
By separating our business offerings, we aim to make them more explicit and easy-to-understand. We believe that this will provide the necessary clarity to our existing and new customers, allowing us to increase the uptake of our services.
ASI NA is becoming a go-to option for all of ASI’s international accreditation services and is our participating accreditation body for delivering the ASI Two-Tier Assurance Program globally.
Over the last year, we worked to establish its operational infrastructure, quality management system and other support to start a new accreditation body. Although we say that it is “new”, ASI NA has been in the making for years and is inheriting or, in other words, taking over ASI’s well functioning and proven accreditation system.
As already announced, the system will be applied from our ASI NA office to globally accredited conformity assessment bodies by the end of this year, and will continue being a sole accreditation service provider under the ASI name.
Our global assurance oversight as well as other services, such as system integrity and risk management, assurance system development, and knowledge sharing and learning will remain within the ASI Assurance Service International GmbH portfolio.
Another goal behind establishing ASI NA is to build closer ties in the region. We aim to build up our presence in North America and Latin America, to strengthen our relationship with customers and stakeholders. Our business is disproportionately underdeveloped in the region, and there is a tremendous opportunity for our business to grow in these regions. We believe that a greater presence and focused relationships will lead to much success and meaningful impact, as laid out in our 2025 Strategic Plan.
We look forward to this next chapter with excitement as we develop our business through ASI NA. We welcome our stakeholders and any interested parties to get in touch ([email protected]), and help us ensure that sustainability claims can be trusted and their environmental and social impact is real.
Yours sincerely,
Guntars
Chief Executive Officer
